I’ve been waiting to see this on a ball for a while now, and finally here it is! It follows the style of the other two number retirements the Tigers have done. Photo from Tigers Authentics.
Here it is in all it’s glory. It’s an okay logo. Here is the breakdown. It has his name on the left, and number retirement on the right, as well as a teeny tiny Detroit Tigers logo on the bottom. He has a silhouette of himself stepping on 2nd base and making a throw, I do like the inclusion of the base! It also of course includes his number 1 that will be enshrined come August 6th.
I do have one gripe, and is it that the Tigers have not yet found a good way to include the player’s autograph. It is a good idea, with extremely poor execution. They have added some white negative space in the silhouette to do this, and it just looks awkward and clunky. Here are the other two number retirements the Tigers have done, and those extremely similar logos.
I would like to note that, on a very bright note, this year’s logo for Lou is a bit larger! A more reasonable size, as my complaint with the Tigers balls were that they had some of the smallest logos that you needed a microscope to see the details of.
Currently, and I believe exclusively you can get these baseballs retail or in game used form (and likely signed as well) directly from the Detroit Tigers Authentics department, and nowhere else.
Here is a photo of it in game used form. Looks great!
