As expected, the Pittsburgh Pirates will be using a commemorative baseball for the 60th Anniversary of Blass’ involvement with the Pirates. A long career in MLB, and a longer career in the booth. He will be retiring after this final weekend of the season when the Bucs play the Cincinnati Reds.
I am pretty sure the ball we see above is the one that will be used on the field, its somewhat large of a logo, but I think its small enough to be approved by MLB. I’ll come back and update if I was wrong/right after the game.
Personally, I like this logo. It features Blass, and a microphone as the “0” in 60, and its pretty creative. I believe this is the first ever commemorative baseball honoring a broadcaster!
If I find them for sale anywhere online, I will link it here. Update: these are tough, a few are on eBay here.
On a personal note, I’ll be in attendance trying to snag this ball, send me an email (ericabneri@hallofcommemoratives.com) or a tweet (@thefrownyface) if you will be there as well!
