On Saturday 7/20/19 the Pittsburgh Pirates used this commemorative baseball featuring the “1979” and “40 Years”. It is the 40th Anniversary of the 1979 World Champion Pirates, their most recent WS championship.

When we take a closer look at this seemingly boring logo, it actually shows some fantastic little characteristics. We see the border of the logo, it is ragged edged, and I believe this is supposed to be a tribute to the old pirates logo jagged edged border (to be like a treasure map!). Real nice touch. We also see stars above the “1979” and below the “40 years” and this must be a reference to Willie Stargell’s famous stars that he would give to players. The font is out of the ordinary, and overall it could be better, but it certainly could be a LOT worse!

As soon as it hits the market online, I will update this post.
